RUNAWAY SUN

DELTA ROCK MUSIC FROM THE LONE STAR STATE

Runaway Sun effortlessly meld blues, rock, country, and pop into an arresting, energizing sound that drives people to sit up and rock out.
In five years, the band has cut three studio releases and established a broad fan base with a steady Gulf Coast touring schedule. Their first full-length album, The Bridge, was recorded in an eight hour sprint over one day at Houston’s legendary SugarHill Studios. Its success led to opening slots for Heartless Bastards, UK blues-rock powerhouse Back Door Slam, shows at the House of Blues and SXSW, and an appearance at the “Live in Union Square” concert series in Manhattan.

Runaway Sun was nominated for “Best Blues Band” in the 2015, 2010 and 2009 Houston Press Music Awards; and their track “Bad Bad Man” has been nominated for “Best Music Video.” With their latest album, “Let’s Run,” Runaway Sun established themselves across the South and on the East Coast.

      Houston Press Review: "Let's Run"

There’s no better time for a road trip than early summer, and there just happens to be a car on the cover of Runaway Sun’s Let’s Run. That makes sense: The Houston four-piece’s second album and first in three years is a bit of a musical travelogue itself, the adventures of a confident and charismatic blues-rock band exploring its sound, testing its limits a little but usually remaining radio-friendly. Good Houstonians that they are, Runaway Sun do love them some ZZ Top, like the fuzzy riff that opens the album with “Let’s Run” and boogies through several other songs like “Lily” and “Push.”

      FreshArts Review: "Bad Bad Man"

Delta Rock band Runaway Sun from Houston, TX, has completed their first major music video for the song Bad Bad Man. Born out of lead singer Andrew Karnavas’ love for antihero stories, Bad Bad Man follows a man hollowed out by the murder of his wife on their wedding day. From its sparse, Dobro-like opening riff to the pounding finish, the music and the imagery are a perfect, haunting combination. Director Lynn Birdwell has created a landscape that allows for visual cues in the live action that find their way in and out of Brandon Ray’s surprisingly dimensional paper animation that makes repeat viewing something you’ll want to do. Bad Bad Man takes Runaway Sun to the dark side. But it’s a good dark side, and you’ll want to watch it unfold in this music video.
